The digital revolution is fundamentally transforming not only technology but also social structures, the economy, and our daily lives. I’ve been writing about futurism for many years. I’d like to highlight one problem I see: the idea that technology is a philosophy. Because if we can’t interpret technology as a philosophy, it becomes a bit of a “future rumor.” We’re faced with such misgivings as “robots will do this,” “artificial intelligence will completely integrate into our lives,” “we’ll lose our jobs,” and “we’ll be miserable.”

This way of thinking served as a foundation for me, and at the Mediterranean IT Summit held in December this year, we decided to write an article with Devrim Danyal, one of our country’s technology leaders and a practicing futurist . This summit, which took significant steps toward strengthening our country’s technology and IT infrastructure and advancing its education and digital transformation, explored the opportunities and challenges presented by the digital age in depth. This year’s meetings covered a variety of key themes, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, smart cities, e-government services, and technology leadership, each playing a critical role in shaping tomorrow’s societies. Cybersecurity stood out as a key area at the summit, where participants discussed how to ensure data security, protect personal privacy, and implement stronger measures against cyberattacks. Artificial intelligence sessions focused on the transparency and ethical use of algorithms, while the integration of these technologies into our business and daily lives was explored from a broad perspective.

Smart cities, focusing on how technology can transform urban life, focused more on the concept of technology efficiency, a topic we discussed with Emrah Kozan, one of the creators of the energy summit : “Issues such as technology efficiency and sustainable infrastructure solutions are crucial. We must examine the challenges and successes faced by these technologies through real-world examples. This way, we can explain to people the vision of building more livable cities.”

We, too, believe it’s crucial for leaders charged with shaping the future to come together and explore ways to maximize the opportunities technology offers us and minimize potential risks.
