Where to stay in Venice: 6 charming hotels

The capital of romance, Venice boasts some of the world’s most beautiful palaces, surrounded by incredible historical monuments. The city on the water is full of attractions interspersed with enchanting little bridges, museums, restaurants, flea markets, and luxury stores. Feeling a bit lost with the abundance of places to stay online? Discover my selection of the 6 best hotels in Venice where you can stay for an unforgettable stay.

The best boutique hotels in Venice

After extensive research, cross-referencing booking ratings , positive and negative reviews , relevant comments and personal experience , I have made a selection of beautiful hotels in Venice . Indeed, the choice was vast and with this article I save you time.

What to avoid when booking

Indeed, between grandiose palaces , typical Venetian hotels , exceptional establishments or more confidential addresses , there are also accommodations with misleading photos and poor value for money to avoid. Finally, don’t wait to book your nights because the prices vary according to demand. The more you are in a period when there is little availability in Venice, the more the prices will soar. If you delay your reservations, either the best hotels will pass you by, or you will pay the full price.

Where to stay in Venice: in which district?

I recommend staying in the historic heart of Venice for a romantic getaway. To enjoy the romantic atmosphere of the canals, you should stay in an old palazzo in the Venetian city. I’ll also explain everything you need to know about the different neighborhoods in Venice where you can stay : why stay in the San Marco, Cannaregio, or Dorsoduro districts, the pros and cons, and more.

Be careful, sometimes the hotel doesn’t seem that far from Venice’s major tourist attractions, but in practice it’s very different. You have to take into account the maze of alleys and bridges that lengthen the distances. Also, be wary of hotels outside the center of Venice, which may require a boat ride. I traveled on a vaporetto with a couple who had booked their hotel on the Lido and were unaware of the distance they would have to travel in the morning and evening. The following selection only offers accommodation in Venice itself.

Charming hotels in Venice

1- Hotel Bel Sito e Berlino: a charming address for an exceptional stay

old Venetian hotel Venice

With this address, we stay in the most visited and oldest district of Venice, surrounded by typical small canals. You will have a wide choice for your outings nearby: La Fenice, San Marco Square, the Ponte d’ell Accademia… The Bel Sito e Berlino hotel stands on a small square with charming facades and historical monuments right next to the Grand Canal.

In addition to its ideal location , this slightly old-fashioned hotel will create the perfect atmosphere for a romantic stay in Venice . Far from the soulless modern hotels, people come here for the charm of the authentic Venetian decor .

I loved the small, quiet patio for tea and the cozy dining room overlooking the square for a well-stocked breakfast. And above all, I loved waking up facing the church and its wonderful architecture. The staff is very helpful and available with very good advice. In the evening, I had a pain in my knee and they kindly prepared me an ice pack to relieve it. Depending on your preferences, you may prefer the room with a Canal view (these are the small interior canals of Venice).

The best part of the accommodation: you will find a vaporetto stop 50 meters from the hotel, whether you are going to or coming from the airport (Giglio stop) or visiting Venice.

2 – Excess Venice Boutique Hotel Spa in the Dorsoduro district

best hotels in Venice

A beautiful address on the southwest side of the city, Le Excess Venice is a Venice hotel that benefits from the tranquility of the Dorsoduro district. We love the garden, perfect for relaxing between visits or enjoying breakfast in the morning. The brightly colored decor and rich materials give this establishment a luxurious feel.

The Excess Venice Boutique Hotel & Private Spa is ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway away from the hustle and bustle of Venice. However, there are plenty of restaurants and bars in this student area. Check out my article for some great places to eat in Venice .

The best part of the accommodation: The hotel has a peaceful garden and a spa area with sauna and jacuzzi.

3- Hotel Flora: a green setting in the heart of the old town

The beautiful boutique hotels of Venice

The Flora is a dream hotel for visiting Venice . It is located 3 minutes from St. Mark’s Square, yet it exudes a soothing calm. The typically Venetian rooms and delicious breakfast make this a remarkable place to stay in Venice.

People come here for the pure Venetian atmosphere. As well as the small garden and especially the friendliness of the people who run the Hotel Flora . In fact, the hotel has a rating of over 9/10 and glowing reviews on Booking.com. I recommend this place during your stay in Venice.

The best part about this accommodation: The hotel is tucked away in a quiet area, at the end of an alleyway, very close to St. Mark’s Square and all of Venice’s attractions. We love the small garden right in the city center.

The best luxury hotels in Venice

In Venice, luxury hotels all seem more beautiful than each other. In every part of the city, they compete with each other in gilding, tapestries, marble, Murano glass, and grandiose suites to make all their guests dream. Here are two particularly well-located palaces in Venice for exploring the city without having to walk too far.

4 – The Gritti Palace Luxury Collection Hotel: the most beautiful panorama

best hotels in Venice where to stay

Do you dream of sleeping with a view of the Grand Canal ? The Gritti Palace is certainly the hotel with the most beautiful view of Venice . Speaking of which, don’t be disappointed if there are no more availability with canal-view windows. You will enjoy the hotel’s terrace . Indeed, the Gritti restaurant sets its tables on the waterfront facing the Venetian palaces and magnificent monuments, including the famous Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.

The Gritti Palace is a once-in-a-lifetime treat to something unique. Ultimately, the quality of service, comfort, and luxurious decor place this hotel at the top of Venice’s luxury list .

The best part about this accommodation: The hotel benefits from daylight all day long, right up until the last rays of light on the terrace. And it’s a great opportunity to watch the gondolas and boats bobbing along the canal from your accommodation.

5 – Sina Centurion Palace on the banks of the Grand Canal

In the Dorsoduro district, right next to the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute and the Guggenheim Museum, the Sina Centurion Palace offers a breathtaking view of the Grand Canal and the Venetian Lagoon . Come and experience an exceptional night in one of the most luxurious hotels in Venice .

The best part about this accommodation: It’s located very close to two of Venice’s most charming viewpoints: the Accademia Bridge and the Punta dei Tiburtina. Plus, you’re close enough to the other side of the Dorsoduro district to watch the sunset.

cheap hotel in Venice: good value for money

Everything is relative; finding a cheap hotel in Venice while maintaining a clean, cute, and well-located room is no easy feat. However, I found an address that meets these demanding criteria . But we’re not in high-end standards, don’t dream.

6 – Hotel Commercio & Pellegrino: near Piazza San Marco

Venice: Best Places to Stay

The Commercio & Pellegrino Hotel is very simple but really well located. Moreover, the hotel offers excellent value for money for accommodation in one of the most touristic cities in the world.

For those on a budget , this accommodation is a great way to easily visit Venice while staying close to the main historical monuments. You’ll save money on your overnight stays and travel . Choose rooms on the 3rd floor.

The best part about this accommodation: The hotel is surrounded by the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Square, and the Castello and Arsenale districts, a strategic location that is not insignificant for your visits. Not to mention the dock at the end of the hotel’s alley where you can take the vaporetto to visit the island of Saint Giorgio Maggiore, reach the Rialto Bridge, or the Murano and Burano islands.
